IV. Committee Reports:
A. Hessler Log Cabin – Paul Burns reports that one of our responsibilities
for the Log Cabin is to take an inventory of the contents and give a copy to
the Township so they can update their insurance. Susan Feiger and Paul
have completed the inventory and updated its value. Paul and Mary Swift
are working together on the landscaping. They believe it can be done at
minimal cost using natural plants over a several year period. A complete
presentation for these plans will be made at our March 09 meeting. Paul
also reports that the maintenance on the cabin roof has been completed.
This could not have been accomplished without the help of Marty Klein
and Cal Jamieson. They did a lot of hard work and it looks magnificent!
This roof should last for decades! If you haven’t seen the results, please
take a trip out there and have a look. Saturday, October 11th at 9:00 a.m.,
we will be closing the cabin. Please sign up to help. We will not be
putting the contents up into the attic this year because we have our new
shutters.
B. Dougherty Home Site – Marty Klein reports that the Icehouse is close to being done. The new cedar shingle roof was done a week ago and it looks great. We have just a couple of details left to finish and than painting can begin. Jason from Walters & Hemmings Co. is repairing the tin icebox that goes inside the entry room. On the main house we have gotten estimates from three contractors to work on the following items yet this year. A. New wood shingles on the kitchen. B. Repair the cellar door. C. Replace the porch roof on the back of the house. D. Stabilization of the carriage house and summer kitchen. We hope to have approval for these items from Nancy Finegood soon.
C. Tree Committee – Cal Jamieson: Cal reports that they will be planting trees this fall and if you are interested in a memorial tree to please call. Jim Hall has all the paperwork on the memorial trees and will be working with Cal on this project. Donna Hornberger stated that she hoped we could have an article in the next newsletter to memorialize Rebecca’s and the Tree Committees efforts.
D. Lighthouse – Fred Stoye: Fred reports that over 7000 people have toured the Lighthouse since it opened and he reminds us that tours are free to residents until next spring. The Lighthouse Keepers program is working well but we are looking for keepers for the winter months. If you know anyone who might be interested, please call. Fred will be on the Ron Jolly radio show next Monday at 8:15 am to talk about the lighthouse.
V. New Business:
A. New Officers - Donna requests that we please start thinking about
officers for the next year. We will need a nominating committee.
B. Upcoming programs –
