Seconded – Paul Burns

reports that donations at the Log Cabin were down $500 from last year.
Motion to approve – Steve Lewis
Seconded – Bob Dean
Committee Reports:
Tree Committee – Cal Jamieson: Planting the trees
turned out to be more
work than we planned on. The trees we received were much bigger than
we usually get and required a lot more work. But, we got them in the
ground! 15 trees including 3 from Patti Rudolph’s
property were planted
from the Tavern north on the west side and 5 across the
street.
Jack Munson used his backhoe to dig the holes for us (there
was too many
roots to dig by hand). Thanks to Patti Rudolph, Jim
Hall, Anita Klein,
Mr. Kroupa, and Dave Burkey for their help. We also
have 12 more trees
coming and these will be planted on the west side of Center
just south of
Kroupa Road. Jim Hall also helped me install 12 new
dedication plaques
and we now have a total of 49 dedicated trees. If
anyone is interested in a
dedication plaque please give Cal a call (223-4394).
The cost is $50 and
we will let you pick out the tree. This would make a
great Christmas gift!
Archives – Ann Swaney reports that she has now finished
making copies of all the past Historical Society minutes and they are now
stored in the basement of the Township Hall.
Hessler Log Cabin – Paul Burns: Paul thanked
everyone who came out to help with the cabin closing. Paul also thanked
Fred Stoye for working with the Township on getting the maintenance funds
transferred to our account. Paul is still working with Mary Swift on the
new landscape design. Paul will make a progress report at the February
meeting.
Lighthouse
– Fred Stoye: Fred reports that the Lighhouse is closed for the
season. We had a total of 9,418 visitors for a total of $32,000 in
admissions. We had a new walkway installed from the bay side into the
Lighthouse and a new sprinkler system installed inside the fence. We are
also having an alarm system installed. On Monday, November 17, the
Township will be having a public meeting about the possibility of opening a
gift shop at the Lighthouse. The meeting will be at the Township
Hall. Please come or send a letter of your support. The Lighthouse
will reopen in May.
Center
Rd. Park – Fred Stoye reports that the new park will have a small parking area
and a trail system. The old cherry trees will be removed. There
will not be any playground equipment installed or camping allowed.
F.
Dougherty Home Site – Marty Klein reports that the Icehouse is now painted and
is a beautiful thing. The windows and doors are in and Nancy Warren did
some landscaping. We also hope to get our building permit closed out
soon. We have a little issue with the Township, which we will get worked
out. We plan on working on displays for the inside (photos and tools etc.)
over this winter. We will need more ice tools for this display. If
anyone has any, please let us know. On the Dougherty house, Archer
Construction is almost done with their work. This included a new kitchen
roof, new cellar door, and new back porch. They are also doing some
stabilization to the Carriage House.
Newsletter/Website
– Steve Lewis reports that the Newsletter will be coming out soon! A
slide show about the Ice House is now on the website. All the photos were
taken by Nancy Warren. Be sure to have a look! Steve hopes that
this will be the first of several photo galleries. Thanks to Steve’s
daughter for her help in setting this up!!!
Log
Cabin Days – Donna Hornberger reports that Heatherlyn Reamer will not be able
to organize Log Cabin Days for next year. She has too many things going
on with her family. She does have very good notes and all her contacts,
which she will pass on to the new organizer. With all of Heatherlyn’s
good work, it shouldn’t be too difficult to take over. Donna will be
making calls to look for volunteers. Be ready!!! Thanks so much to
Heatherlyn for everything!!!
New Business:
Donna Hornberger reports that several people have
expressed an interest in spending some time talking about Peninsula
history. Perhaps those interested could come to our regular meetings a
little early (6:15 or 6:30). Donna thinks we should give this a try
starting with the January 8th meeting.
B.
Patti Rudolph reports that Jim Hall took a picture of the tree planting
committee in action to send to Rebecca Nothstine. We
want her to know
we are keeping up her good work.
Upcoming programs –
December – Christmas Dinner at American Legion Hall.
May – Jenni
Glysson speaks on family history on Old Mission Peninsula going back to the
1860’s.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
