SPRING CLEAN UP--MAY 15

Bring your rakes, leaf blowers, clippers, loppers, hay forks and shovels to the annual Dougherty House yard clean up on May 15.    Because of all the work done last year, this spring’s effort should prove to be less arduous.  Patti R. has promised to make some of her famous cookies as an enticement.  Start to gather at the site at 9:00AM.  The rain day is May 22.  Questions may be directed to Tom McGuire (213-421-5386).

HISTORIC ARCHITECT TO PRESENT FINDINGS –MAY 25

Ilene Tyler, Principal and Director of Preservation at Quinn Evans Architects will present her team’s findings and recommendations from the recently completed Historic Structures Report about the Dougherty-Rushmore House on May 25 at the Old Township Hall at 7:00 PM.   A grant from the Jeffris Heartland Fund administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation together with funds raised this past year by PDS were used to complete this report.  It is a critical step required for significant historic structures before rehabilitation can occur and provides the proper documentation and a prioritized roadmap of actions for us and preservation organizations from which we will seek grants.  It will form the basis for our future direction.  Questions may be directed to Gretchen Soutear—223-8752.

ANNUAL FUNDRAISER MOVES TO JUNE

Mark your calendar, the annual fundraiser will be June 11 beginning at 5:30 PM in the Peninsula Room behind the Jolly Pumpkin at 13512 Peninsula Dr.  We have partnered with the Michigan Historic Preservation Network, who holds the conservation easement on both the Dougherty Historic Home Site as well as Bowers Harbor Inn.  As you sip on wine & beer (the first two compliments of Bowers Harbor Inn and PDS/MHPN) and munch on an array of delicious hors d’oeuvres representing their various TC restaurants, you can be bidding on an exciting group of silent auction items or purchase a “Mystery” balloon for $20 whose content is guaranteed to be at least $25 and may be as high as $50.  Hear about what’s going on with PDS and learn about the activities of the Michigan Historic Preservation Network.  Tickets may be purchased at Mapleton Market beginning May 8 for $45 per person.  They will also be available at the May 25 meeting mentioned above.  So join your friends and neighbors in support of the Dougherty Historic Home Site at what is sure to be a fun evening in a lovely setting.  Questions may be directed to Gretchen Soutear (223-8752, gsoutear@charter.net) or JoAnn Cole (223-8778, wjbayview@aol.com).
